About MiraCosta College Community Education & Workforce Development

MiraCosta College’s Technology Career Institute (TCI) is part of MiraCosta College’s Community Education & Workforce Development department. We offer our local community members the opportunity to enhance their lives and their careers with low cost, hassle-free classes, workshops and programs.  From enrichment classes to job training programs, we provide the types of classes that make it easy for you to reach your goals, no matter what age. All of our programs and classes are fee-based and not-for-credit. We offer a 487 hour machinist technology training that typically takes 13-weeks to complete. We have a 93% retention rate and a 92% employment rate. In addition, we have a 600 hour engineering technician program and a 92 hour welding course. Friday Tours

We invite you to come by and see our new location and sign up for a Community Education class or excursion. We are offering tours every Friday at 9 a.m. Please email us at  or call our office at 760-795-6820 to schedule a tour.

Workforce Development

If you need to find a job quickly, redirect your career, or upgrade your professional skills, turn to MiraCosta College Community Education & Workforce Development.  We do it better, faster, and for a fraction of the cost you would spend at a private college! Most of our work skills programs provide opportunities to work with the instructors or career counselors on resumes, interview skills, and job placement. Upon completion of each course, students will receive a Certificate of Accomplishment from MiraCosta College. Certificate of Accomplishment

Need to show the world that you took one of our excellent courses, workshops or programs?  A Certificate of Accomplishment is available upon completion of any Community Education course or series of courses for just $15 per certificate.  Call for details 760.795.6820.

Classes and Workshop Refund and Transfer Policy

Refunds will be made up to three business days prior to class start date.   No refunds will be given once a class has started. A $10 cancellation fee for regular classes and a $25 cancellation fee for work skills certificate programs will be retained for each refund. A full refund will be given if a class is cancelled due to low enrollment. Unused attendance is not transferable to another class session.  Transfers will be approved up to three business days prior to the class start date.  Students must receive a verbal approval from Community Education before a transfer is complete.  

Driver Education & English Language Institute

Our Driver Education and English Language Institute programs are now located in Building T510 and T520 at the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside, CA  92056.  Direct phone line to this office is 760-795-6825.  Below are links to campus maps for your convenience:

Motorcyclist Training Course (Motorcycles provided)

This training is designed primarily for beginning and inexperienced riders. This class is required
by the DMV for any rider under the age of 21 seeking his or her first Californai motorcycle lisence. DMV certificates will be issued for successful completion of this course.

  • Thursday, September 29th at 6pm at the Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad

Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Information Sessions

  • Thursday, September 29 at 9am (testing & interviews are immediately folowing the infromation session)

  • Wednesday, November 2 at 6pm (testing & interviews are on Wednesday, November 9th at 6pm

  • Tuesday, December 13 at 2pm (testing & interviews are immediately following the information session.
