Gone are the days of the grease-covered, conventional manufacturing machinist. Today’s machinist must be highly trained with very specific education and skills, working in high-tech manufacturing plants that are both clean and innovative. CNC machines, just-in-time production methods, lean manufacturing techniques, along with great housekeeping and state-of-the-art facilities give a more accurate picture of American manufacturing today. The need for properly trained machinists to fill hundreds of positions in North San Diego County has
reached critical mass.
To meet this need, we are proud to offer this 487-hour program to individuals seeking a fast-paced, high-level training. Our program will prepare students for employment in machine shops and manufacturing facilities. Students who attend will experience an accelerated program that quickly prepares them to meet trade skill sets such as shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, precision measuring, machining procedures, tooling, and a basic understanding of both manual and CNC machining. Salaries for machinist technician apprentices range from $13–$16/hour to start; however, many companies are hiring at $15–$18/hour with proper training and certifications provided by programs such as ours.
